Up until the present, they still maintain this license and have grown the franchise to be one of the biggest football games in existence. It has seen phenomenal improvements since its first iteration and the player base has grown substantially. While there are other competitors in the field, the FIFA license gives them a leg-up over them and provides their FIFA soccer games for XBox and Playstation a much higher success rate due to success and credibility.

 

FIFA 07

 

The first FIFA Xbox 360 game, it was an iteration of refinement. The team count was lowered in order to increase the focus on the remaining four leagues, as well as the additional national teams. The crowd also saw several improvements as it can now respond to the game's events, as well as it being local to the region. The user's players now exhibit more responsiveness in many situations, such as when in control of the ball and when two players collide. The entire collision system has been thoroughly redesigned so that during the collision, the players' speed, weight and power will have an effect who comes out best in that particular confrontation. Furthering this responsiveness, the goalkeeper has also been improved to recover faster, position himself better and react more intelligently.

 

The weather system has also been improved to allow for rain, snow, day, dusk and night matches, dependent on the stadium. Manager mode does not see the weather changes. Again, this is not an exhaustive list, but these are some of the major additions and changes.

 

2009

 

FIFA 10 is the latest FIFA game available and brings less improvement, but perhaps more important ones for some gamers. The Manager Mode sees its major revision for this iteration. The user can now employ an Assistant Manager to deal with the team line-up as well as other squad-specific details. Additionally, finances are less focused on the sponsors and more on the wages dealt to them. The Manager Mode also shows news about other people's own Manager events. One exceptional improvement is the Auto-Resolve, which is no longer apparently random, but resolves a match based on each team's strength now.

Madden is one of the most look-forward-to releases on xbox and PS3 every year, and this year is no exception. For more than 20 years, this franchise has been an undeniably big hit. The team behind Madden even attends the NFL Draft every year in order to get headshots of rookies in their NFL uniforms as early as humanly possible. Along with the game's popularity has grown a huge pro gaming industry, and now the world's top Madden players can make a living playing in tournaments or even just online. And people are known to come up with every excuse in the book in order to get out of work on the very day the game releases - making it as close to a national holiday as the video game industry is likely to get.

 

For all the good that comes with the hype and hysteria of Madden NFL, there is a downfall to the game's yearly release. Ever since 1999 when John Madden started putting players on the cover instead of himself, those players seem to either perform badly or suffer serious injury.

 

The Madden curse made it's mark again in 2009. For the first time in the series' history, two players graced the cover of Madden NFL 10. Defending Super Bowl Champion safety of the Pittsburgh Steelers Troy Polamalu goes head-to-head with one of the men he covered in the big game last February, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. In the Steelers' first regular season game, and Troy Polomalu's first after being put on the cover of Madden 10, he injured his ankle while blocking a field goal. He didn't return.

 

One would imagine teams and players would have learned their lesson by now. Players a) don't need the money and b) are quite superstitious in the best of times, so you'd think they'd just decline the offer from EA sports. If you don't believe in it yet, just take a look at all the historical evidence of a very real "Madden Curse.".

 

Notable instances of the Madden NFL curse:

 

2002: Second-year quarterback Daunte Culpepper graced the cover for 2002, but was only able to follow-up an NFC Championship appearance the previous year by missing the final five games of the 2001 season with a knee injury as the Vikings missed the playoffs with a 5-11 record.

 

2003: Marking the beginning of the end of the "Greatest Show On Turf", Marshall Faulk of the Rams failed to rush for 1,000 yards in the 2001 season (for the first time since 1996) following his appearance on the cover of Madden 03 and his subsequent nagging ankle injury.

 

2004: For the third year straight, the cover athlete of Madden suffered injury. In 2003, it was QB Mike Vick, who missed the entire season due to preseason injury. Without him, the Falcons went 5-11.

 

2006: Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was coming off a Super Bowl appearance, in which his team lost to the New England Patriots. But as the Madden NFL 06 cover athlete, his 2005 was destined for disaster and he suffered a sports hernia in the first game and ended up shutting down for the last seven games of the season.

Including this particular duo there is zero to mock at, moreover.} Consider the credentials of these two.} ESPN big shot and NHL All-Star legend Bill Clement is but one half of the announcing team.} Then there's Thorne, Gary Thorne, ESPN stalwart, and Clement's partner-in-crime.} Listening to these fellas report on the game is a breathtaking experience.} Xbox NHL 10 is so realistic that you'll be assured that the duo is relaxing in your home.

 

On top of all the other upgrades and improvements, precision passing is one that will jazz gamers of all skill levels. Now, players can really take control of the speed of the puck, a feature absent in prior NHL games. And on top of that, you can, depending on your aim and strength of the slap shot, bank your passes off of the board.} Xbox NHL 10, for the very first time, allows you to battle on the boards - another improvement that has the video game world revved up. Now, when you find yourself pinned up against the board while in possession of the puck, you can stifle your rival's attempts to get the puck from you, by kick-passing it to a teammate. On the other hand, if your rival is being pinned to the boards by you, then you can really put yourself in charge - assuming you're the best player on the rink.}
